General Disclaimer

BizPaL is an online information service about business permits, licences and relevant legislation made possible through a collaborative effort of the Government of Canada and participating provincial, territorial, regional, and local governments. Federal government information is offered in both English and French. Information provided by participating jurisdictions is offered in the official language(s) of the originating jurisdiction.

Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy, currency and reliability of the content available through BizPaL; however, it should not be considered as, and is not a substitution for, legal advice regarding the requirements for establishing a business in a specific jurisdiction. The information presented by BizPaL is based on a user's search criteria which may generate varying results. Making sure that all required permits and licences and other compliance requirements are obtained remains the responsibility of the user, as applicable.

How AI is Used

BizPaL uses artificial intelligence (AI) technologies solely to enhance search functionality on the BizPaL website by interpreting natural language queries and mapping them to regulatory terminology. Generative AI is used to create simplified summaries of permits, licences, and legislative content, offering users a high-level overview of key information.

Overall, the use of the AI technology in BizPaL's services is intended to enhance user's experience by delivering better search results.

What AI Does Not Do

While AI improves search accuracy and efficiency, it is not used to:

  • Provide legal advice or compliance opinions;
  • Make regulatory decisions on your behalf;
  • Generate prescriptive business recommendations;
  • Store or process any personal information; or
  • Issue compliance decisions.

Information Accuracy

BizPaL collects information in its original format from the authoritative source and is stored and presented on the BizPaL website. Therefore, terminology that appears in search results reflect the original wording of the authoritative source; not additional or different wording generated by BizPaL's use of AI technology.

BizPaL will make best efforts to ensure information is accurate, up to date and reliable. AI-generated results are regularly reviewed by BizPaL's content team to ensure accuracy. However, users should always verify and validate all AI-generated results.

For definitive guidance on specific regulatory requirements, users should consult directly with the relevant regulatory authorities or seek professional advice.

Users are also encouraged to consult the appropriate regulatory authorities, such as federal, provincial, territorial and local government regulators, within their jurisdiction to confirm specific requirements for their business activities.

Privacy

The BizPaL website and services do not collect, store, or process any personal information such as names, emails, phone numbers or addresses. Users should not enter any personally identifiable information in the BizPaL search engine. No record of personal information will be retained. BizPaL collects usage metrics to support future performance insights and to drive service improvements
